Local information

There is so much to do during your stay...

Mendip View Lodges are ideally located at the heart of Somerset. We are lucky enough to be on the doorstep of Wookey Hole Caves, a five-minute drive from the historic city of Wells (the UK’s number one recommended tourist destination), 20 minutes from Glastonbury, and just over 20 miles from Bath and Bristol.

We’re surrounded by the Mendip Hills, which stretch from Frome to Brean Down and offer a dramatic landscape of deep gorges and ancient woodlands that loom over the Somerset Levels. Concealing intriguing secrets beneath their surface, these hills are a haven for caving enthusiasts, with underground caves and rivers waiting to be explored…

Beyond their hidden depths, the Mendip Hills boast a rich tapestry of history, from the prehistoric wonders of Cheddar to the Iron-Age relics of Brent Knoll, and the Victorian fortifications of Brean Down. Offering excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, and horseback riding, these hills also treat visitors to awe-inspiring panoramic vistas from their summits.

Historic Wells is just down the road…

Wells, recently hailed as the UK’s number one tourist destination, captivates visitors with its timeless appeal and rich heritage. The city’s centerpiece, Wells Cathedral, is a masterpiece of medieval architecture, and its stunning façade and intricate interior draw pilgrims and art lovers alike.

The charming medieval streets, such as Vicar’s Close, offer a step back in time, while the Bishops Palace and its tranquil gardens provide a serene retreat. With an abundance of cultural events, festivals, and historic attractions, Wells promises an enriching experience for travellers seeking a quintessential English getaway.

So much to offer for families…

For families, this corner of Somerset is a goldmine of fun days out. There is so much for families to explore here above and below ground.

The kids can’t complain of being bored when they have multiple caves, zoos, theme parks, museums, water play centres, amazing aquariums and outdoor pursuits to choose from. There are lots of free days out too including incredible beaches at Weston, Burnham and Brean, free festivals like the Bristol Balloon Fiesta or free museums like the M Shed in Bristol.
